KILLINGTON, Vt. (April 1, 2010)—Killington Mountain School (KMS) Freestyle A Team was out in force this past weekend at the 2010 Sprint U.S. Freestyle Championships in Squaw Valley, where Nick Keating took eighth place in moguls, behind U.S. Ski Team member Joe Discoe who finished first, and 2010 Olympian and KMS Alumnus Michael Morse (’99), who finished third. Sterling Crescimanno finished eighth in dual moguls. In all, nearly 20 current and former KMS student-athletes competed for the national titles.

“Our freestyle program has grown tremendously over the past 10 years, and we have trained—and continue to train—some incredible athletes,” said KMS Mogul Coach and Freestyle Program Director Deb Newson. “Nick’s hard work this season paid off with an eighth place finish behind some of the best U.S. Ski Team and Olympic Team members, including our own Michael Morse. Four of our athletes made the mogul finals and two made it to the round of 16 in duals. We have huge depth as a team. As the program continues to grow, I expect we’ll see more and more KMS freestylers making headlines.”

KMS took a field of 17 to compete in the 2010 Tyson Freestyle Junior Olympics last month. Junior Bryan Zemba, who won silver in dual moguls at the URTUR-FIS Freestyle NORAM Cup earlier this month, landed in 13th in moguls.

The last KMS freestyler to podium in NorAms was Morse (’99), who has claimed many Nor Am podiums throughout his career.

Overall, current KMS student-athletes and KMS alum finished as follows: Keating (8), Zemba (13), Crescimanno (17), and Lizzy Smith (13) finished in the top 20 in moguls; Crescimanno (8) and Smith (12) in the round of 16 in duals with Zemba (18) and Tyler Wadhams (20) just missing the cut. Other results included: Michael Morse (3rd moguls), Tim Chamberlain (22nd moguls, 30th duals), Jeremy Gravell (32nd moguls, 41st duals), Wadhams (20th in duals, 36th in moguls), Darius Baradarn (51st moguls), Vicky Smith (21st moguls, 46th duals), Allison Benedict (23rd moguls, 22nd duals), Rebecca Goldstein (24th moguls, 47th duals), Kat DiMascio (31st moguls, 23rd duals), Sarah Goldman (37th moguls), Kayla Burcin (50th moguls, 27th duals), and Alta Curtis (53rd in moguls, 24th in duals).
