The oldest Supreme Court Justice, John Paul Stevens has said he will retire this year or next year.  Stevens will turn 90 on April 20, making him the second-oldest justice in the court’s history.

Stevens told The New York Times, “I do have to fish or cut bait, just for my own personal peace of mind and also in fairness to the process. The president and the Senate need plenty of time to fill a vacancy.”

Stevens was named to the court by Republican President Gerald Ford in 1975.  He has served on the court for 34 years.
