Ski resorts in Lake Tahoe received an enormous amount of snow this past season. That, coupled with the timing of the powder dumps, has put the area resorts on track to break the yearly average of skier visits. The yearly average from 2004-2008 was 7.5 million visits, and the record number of visits was 8.2 million, which happened during the 2004-05 season. Bob Roberts, executive director of the California Ski Industry Association, says that the initial reports indicate that the 2009-10 numbers will be better than the average, but will not beat the record. Roberts also said that the timing of when all the snow fell was very good, as it fell during the week mostly, which made highway travel from the Bay Area relatively easy.
