A developer in Utah has formally submitted a proposal to Cache Couty officials that seeks to create a small ski area called Rainey Ranch. Developer John Chadwick’s proposal would have the area in Cherry Creek Canyon, northeast of Richmond, Utah, and would cover about 160 acres of privately-owned land. It would serve up to 2,000 skiers daily, and would include a 10,000 square foot lodge, snowmaking, four ski lifts, and a tubing hill.
There has been a great deal of environmental objection and concern since Chadwick made the proposal, with people worried about possible water contamination due to septic system drainage and vehicle-polluted runoff from the ski resort base. The proposal has been continued for up to six months so the county can properly investigate whether these concerns would be potential problems.
