In the ancient Turkish city of Erzurum lies the ski area known as Palandoken, established in the 1990′s. It is one of the most modern and largest of ski areas in Turkey.

Now the Eastern Turkish city will be graced with another fine resort…Konakli. It will have four new chairlifts, a triple and three quads. It will also have a ski shop, ski school and kids club building in addition to being home to super-G, slalom and super combined races for the 2011 Universiade Winter Games.

The Games will also pour into Palandoken, which will house snowboarding events.

Erzurum is less than 125 miles from Iran, Iraq and Syria. For all of who you don’t equate skiing with the middle east…there you have it!
