Nicolas Müller is a name you might start hearing more of… the guy just signed a deal with Nike to wear boots and outerwear, is a softhearted environmental dude, and is cute as the dickens.  What more could you want?

In a recent article by Jesse Huffman of ESPN Action Sports, Müller talks about his decision to stick with Burton and sign with Nike:

He was humbled when Nike first called him.  Many of the heroes he grew up with were at Nike, including Michael Jordan and Roger Federer.  He had to check Nike out, and was blown away by their “Just Do It” attitude.

Regarding Burton vs. Nike he is living life in harmony with both companies.  ”I love Burton snowboards and always will. I have the life I live right now because of Jake’s company and they make the best snowboards in the world. I believe the minute you become complacent it can be dangerous.  Why not bring it together for once, instead of always fighting each other and being scared? It’s 2010 and time for win-win situations and most definitely a best-of-both-worlds scenario. Why not strive for that?”

Müller, (born in ’82) is a Swiss snowboard freerider, noted for his smooth riding style, his ability to read different terrains, and adjusting his riding to the terrain.

Müller grew up in a small town west of Zurich. He began skiing at an early age. He skateboarded in the summers, which prompted him to move away from skiing and try out snowboarding.  Müller spent lots of time at the nearby winter resort of Laax, and now has a house there.  Nicolas has snowboarded since 1992, skateboarded since 1994, and went professional in 2000.

2005 brought Müller to the attention of the mainstream as he was voted Transworld’s Snowboarder of the Year. Since then he has appeared in numerous snowboard videos and has placed in some of the largest snowboard competitions of the world. In 2006 and 2007, he was elected “Rider of the Year” by his peers such as Shaun White, Travis Parker and Dany Kass in “Snowboarder Magazine”.

Despite these successes, Müller does not focus his time on competitions. He is better known for his appearances in countless snowboard videos – showcasing his style and ability.  If you search his name on YouTube, you get over 430 videos.

Müller is a vegetarian and pursues a sustainable lifestyle. In an effort to reconcile his usage of helicopters and snowmobiles, he offsets his carbon footprint by donating to the SuddenRush Atlantic Rainforest Institution.

When asked about working with a smaller company vs. a giant, he answered:  “I think it comes down to each and every one of us…It’s never a question of who is bigger, better, smaller, worse, because isn’t everything seeking light anyway? The potential of influence lays deep in all of us, day-by-day, moment-by-moment.”

Are you in love yet?  We are.
