Scientists worry current volcano in Iceland could wake up a much larger one

Reports are coming in that scientists are worried the tremors caused by the volcanic activity of Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland could lead to bigger, badder things.

The tremors it is setting off could awaken another volcano nearby, the Katla volcano. That would be bad news…the eruption of Katla would be 10 times stronger than that of Eyjafjallajokull. The two lava machines are about 12 miles apart, and the last three times Eyjafjallajokull erupted, Katla did as well.

While the prediction is educated, it is difficult to accurately predict volcanic eruptions, so perhaps there’s nothing to worry about. But perhaps there is. Let’s hope for the best.
