In a move that surprised many, long-time Canadian ski jumping coach Tadeusz Bafia has decided to hang up the jacket and retire. He announced: “The Olympic Games were my last event as coach of the Canadian National Team. I already decided two years ago that if there was no improvement concerning discipline, expectations, etc., that I would quit after the Olympics.”

The Canadian ski jumping team failed to perform successfully in Vancouver, although many felt it a coup just to have a four-member team at all. Stefan Read finished the best in 46th place. Read is not yet sure if he will make a return to the team. He will make the decision in a few months, saying he needed “time to think and get away from it all”.

Former assistant coach Gregor Linsig is reportedly stepping up to fill the shoes of Bafia.
