Yesterday Julia Mancuso’s sister was married. Today, Miss Mancuso got hitched herself.
It was announced this afternoon that Julia Mancuso has signed on with Volkl skis and Marker bindings. For Mancuso, the marriage is of the high school sweetheart variety.
“I used Volkl skis when I was a kid. I am focused on using the new equipment to open up a new and even more successful chapter in my skiing career. The new equipment complements my skiing style, and I am already feeling like I am part of the Marker Volkl family,” Mancuso says.
Marker Volkl, Mancuso Victory – the stars have aligned for the 26-year-old who has proven to be one of the great big event skiers on the World Cup circuit. Volkl could not be happier in locking up the rising superstar. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for us,” said Chris Adams, Promotions Director for Marker-Volkl USA. “In addition to her great skiing results, she’s a dynamic personality and a versatile athlete, as she proved recently by finishing on the podium in her first-ever Big Mountain competition.”
A dynamic personality and a versatile athlete. Two “true”s on that statement.
That first-ever comp Mr. Adams refers to was the Verbier Xtreme, the scariest big mountain event on the World Freeskiing Tour (vid below) . Last March, the Squaw Valley native looked right at home on the Bec des Rosses, stomping a cliff and navigating a treacherous rock face on her way to a third-place showing.
From the mean an gnarly to the soft and sensual, Mancuso sells her own line of thong underwear, dubbed Kiss My Tiara Lingerie. The line is named for the princess crown Mancuso has sported on three Winter Olympic podiums: a gold medal in giant slalom at the Torino Winter Olympics, and two silver medals at the most recent Vancouver Winter Olympics.
Volkl now has one more of the top-seeded racers on the World Cup circuit, an athlete capable of winning on any given day. “I am really excited that we’ve signed Julia, and I think it’s a great testimonial to the commitment of hte Marker Volkl team. We’ve worked hard on our new race products, and it is rewarding that an athlete of Julia’s caliber has recognized that commitment,” said Mike Noonan, President of Marker Volkl USA.
It’s honeymoon time for Mancuso and Volkl, but soon it will be back to the high stakes of battling the world’s best ski racers. “We are certainly looking forward to the new World Cup season and the 2011 Championships,” says Mr. Noonan. It’s a statement of confidence, as Julia’s skis will have a new Volkl technology called Speedwall, ski sidewalls that are waxable!
Yep, makes instant sense, much like Julia signing with Volkl-Marker USA.
