158 people were killed last night when a Boeing 737 took off from Dubai (home of the first indoor ski resort) and crashed while making a routine landing in Mangalore, India. Eight surivors were found in the wreckage, and were taking to hospitals, where most were reported to be in stable condition.
The pilot overshot the runway, and it was reported that the plane crashed into a ravine and burst into flames. As night came, rescue workers used portable lights to pull burned bodies from the wrecked aircraft. The workers also attempted to cool the wreckage in order to save the flight data and voice data recorder information.
Investigations are underway as officials wait for the data to be recovered.
