Ski states make Forbes top 10 fittest cities list

All that skiing and riding has paid off as Forbes has released its top 10 fittest cities list. Number 6 is Denver, Colorado, which boasts low disability and heart disease. Ski states Connecticut, Washington State, and Minnesota also made the list. Seattle came in at #4, and houses the enormous flagship REI store.  Commuter bicycling, farmers markets, recreation centers, cigarette smoking, health insurance and poverty rates were among the factors used by Forbes to create the list.

Washington D.C. has been the #1 city for three years running. It offers 60 miles of bike lanes, numerous rec centers, ball fields and city parks. It has the second highest rate of people walking or biking to work in the U.S.

3. Minneapolis, Minn.
4. Seattle, Wash.
5. Portland, Ore.
6. Denver, Co.
7. Sacramento, Ca.
8. San Francisco, Ca.
