In 2009 Native American tribes fought and lost a US Supreme Court battle over the use of treated wastewater to make snow on the San Franciso Peaks of the Arizona Snowbowl.  The contract to sell the wastewater to Snowbowl was signed by the Flagstaff City Council back in 2002.

Now, the Arizona Daily Sun is reporting that the Hopi Tribe objects to any snowmaking, regardless of the source of the water.

The chairman of the Hopi Tribe, Le Roy Shingoitewa, said Hopi elders felt strongly that no water of any kind should be used to make snow on the San Francisco Peaks, called “Nuvatukyaovi” in Hopi, and that the Hopi Tribe did not approve it, despite a letter signaling otherwise from one tribal committee.
