While the Northern Hemisphere-based ski resorts have mostly wrapped up their seasons, our friends to the South are about to embark on their own Wintry fun.

Kicking things off this winter will be Lake Wanaka, NZ resort, Treble Cone. The resort today announced plans to open starting on June 24th. Even more exciting than the onset of opening day will be the arrival of The Airbag.

The Airbag, measuring 10 meters x 15 meters allows guests to perform freestyle maneuvers in a safe, controlled environment. The first 150 skiers/boarders on Treble Cone’s lifts will have the privilege of hitting this progressive feature. So be sure to get out to the slopes early to ensure your spot among the lucky few.

The giant cushion will be in plain view of the Treble Cone deck and high-speed six seater chairlift for spectators to check out all the trickery as some of the region’s top pro freeskiers and snowboarders throw down.

If your heading out for opening day, don’t forget to set your alarm clock as the first lift runs at 8.30am. The Airbag will be available between 12pm and 2pm.
