Olympic snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler was recently named 3rd in Discovery Channel’s Planet Green rankings of the top 5 “Eco Athletes” of 2010, joining the ranks of Lance Armstrong and Yao Ming.

Gretchen’s work with The Climate Project, Natural Resources Defense Council, the Aspen/Snowmass Save Our Snow campaign, and StopGlobalWarming.org was exactly the laundry list of accomplishments to impress the esteemed panel of judges. Combine that with the 100% recycled outerwear suit Bleiler is currently designing for her sponsor, Oakley, and it’s no surprise she was among the elite few selected.

Just goes to show you can be insanely talented on the slopes, a looker off the slopes, and at the same time still fight for the good of our planet. Check out the websites of any of those aforementioned groups and find out what you can do to help, even if you aren’t a pro snowboarder.
