A 21-year-old American woman has passed away in a Christchurch, New Zealand hospital after a ski accident that occurred at Mt. Hutt in Methven on June 17th.
Authorities have declined to identify the woman, other than she was a student visiting New Zealand. After skiing off-trail, the American fell causing her to collide into a rocky section of the mountain. The resort’s ski patrol attended to her before she was taken by helicopter to the Christchurch hospital, where she later passed away as a result of her injuries.
Mt. Hutt manager Dave Wilson indicated that the victim’s family is already in the area, and plans for a memorial service are underway. The ski area is currently conducting its own investigation into the incident.
