The Horstman glacier on Blackcomb Mountain has been open for under a week and has already seen critical acclaim through those sessioning the lanes of Momentum Ski Camps among others, and now with Camp of Champions ready to pop off their summer camp sessions starting Thursday, you can bet that the area will keep on rocking with even more stoked kids and pros!
For those lucky campers about to embark on the best week of their life, let’s take a quick look at the hard work put in by the Camp of Champions staff and the folks at Arena Snowparks. Without their fine efforts your summer camp experience would not be possible!
Arena Snowparks builder Lucas Ouellette and the crew have been dropping teasers for viewers at home as they prepare a summer camp unlike any other…
The first steps to creating a world-class park like Camp of Champions as Video 1 shows us, begins with mapping out the site including borders, figuring out how to make best use of the “blank canvas” that is the lane,
Scoping Video 2, once the site plan is prepared the crew gets to work pushing the massive amounts of snow to create a huge terrain park like Camp of Champions. Down the mountain the crew makes sure all rails are buffed out properly ensuring no edges wreak havoc on campers. Add a healthy dose of bright paint, and you are prepared for a summer of jibbing fun.
Finally, with the tight time constraints the Arena Snowparks crew has to work with, building time becomes a trade-off. No one wants to rush the maintenance of features, but the lane has to be ready for campers when sessions kick off. To maximize efficiency, Whistler summer camps generally use only the finest transport for their jibs, helicopters!
