John Isner shatters every record known to mankind

I guess this is why they actually play the matches.  It ain’t skiing, but we know as much about tennis as anyone and this epic match just transended all sports.

John Isner and Nicolas Mahut go to a 5th set yesterday and the match gets call from darkness.  They start the 5th set today and let the holdfest begin…  It was literally 59 to 59 when it got called for darkness on day 2!

So they start tomorrow and try for a hundred?  Lets talk about some of the off the back of the envelope records that were just set:

  • Most aces in a match.  Both of them set records.
  • Isner could effectively triple the previous record if it stays on like this.
  • Longest set.
  • Longest match.
  • Most bananas eaten in a match.
  • Most service winners.

Get this stat.  Their 5th set was 6 hours and 30 minutes alone.  The previous record long match was 6 hours and 33 minutes.  So it is likely that their 5th set will qualify for the longest match in the history of tennis.

Free lift tickets for the both of them at the lovely Crested Butte ski resort!
