The Jon Olsson Super Sessions, The Dumont Cup, The Candide Invitational; all these events represent unique, signature events put on by some of the world’s best freeskiers. Now it appears that three-time X Games medalist Sammy Carlson will be the latest to join in the line of pro skiers to hold their own contest, but rather then simply following the trend of hosting a wintertime event, Carlson will opt for a summer invitational.
Coming out of Hood River, OR, it’s only natural Carlson would want to host the “Sammy C Invitational” in his hometown. For those who have been to Mt. Hood in the summer, then you already know its easily one of the world’s best places for a summer ski session. With that in mind, Carlson has teamed up with the famous Mt. Hood summer camp, Windells, and plans to host the contest on the largest step-over jump ever seen at Mt. Hood.
Carlson has already announced a list of invited skiers including: TJ Schiller, Tommy Ellingson, John Spriggs, Dane Tudor, Jossi Wells, Elias Ambul, Justin Dorey, Russ Henshaw, Mike Riddle, Willie Borm, Simon Dumont, Paul Bergeron, Phil Casabon, Henrik Harlaut, Nick Martini, Matt Walker, Alex Schlopy, Tim Durtchi, Sean Jordan, Mike Hornbeck, JF Houle, Adam Delorme, Alexis Godbout, with more to be added.
Best of all, the event’s format will take a cue from the ultra-successful 2010 Winter X Games Skier Big Air, and the event will be a jam session format. No senseless pressure for skiers to stomp “safer” tricks just to ensure a score, as the Sammy C Invitational is all about progression and feeding off the vibe of the other competitors.
The event is open to the public and all Windells Session 3 campers are invited to watch. All the action goes down Thursday July 1st.
