Apple Inc. (AAPL) will release its popular iPhone with cellular carrier Verizon Wireless as early as January 2011, according to a Bloomberg News report Tuesday that was backed by two unnamed sources with knowledge of the situation.
Until now, the device had been available exclusively through AT&T networks in the U.S. since its launch three years ago.
The iPhone has emerged as Apple’s largest source of revenue, beating out both the company’s Mac and iPod segments. The most recent iPhone version, iPhone 4, has already sold more than 1.7 million units in just the first three days of its release.
The Verizon announcement should be welcomed news, particularly among those who have been unable to download The Ski Channel: Touch Ski 3D game. The Touch Ski 3D has been one of the most popular iPhone games in terms of downloads and critical acclaim.
CNET reviewed the game, and listed some of their favorite features such as the “Stunning 3D environments, the ultra-realistic Bullet Physics Engine, worldwide online high scores, brand name skis, and the most innovative touch controls you’ve ever seen, Touch Ski 3D is the pinnacle of iPhone gaming.
Stay tuned Verizon users, January is only 6 months away.
