The 2010 Subaru Freeskiing World Tour may have come to a close, but that doesn’t mean you can’t relive all the heart-stopping action this summer. The Ski Channel is pleased this month to air all the stops from the tour including those at Crested Butte, Kirkwood, Revelstoke, and Snowbird.
The level of skiing throughout this year’s tour was absolutely awe-inspiring. Check out all the cork 360′s, switch cliff landings and even a couple of 720′s thrown by the tour’s incredible skiers:
Taking the 2010 McConkey Cup, given to the overall male and female point leaders of the Tour, was Angel Collinson, of Snowbird, Utah, and the late Arne Backstrom, of Squaw Valley, California.
In a cruel coincidence, Arne Backstrom, a man that so embodied the life of the man who the McConkey Cup is named for, passed away in a tragic ski accident on Pisco Mountain (5757m), in the Cordillera Blanca region of Peru, South America on June 3rd, 2010.
If for no other reason, take the time to check out these amazing television events to remember the lives of two fallen skiers who lived to see their sport progress, and cherished their time spent charging the mountains.
