British Columbia has said it spent $895 million while hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in Vancouver.
According to the official Olympic budget of $740 million, that’s a whopping $155 million more than expected.
The release, which came out today, is the first time the Canadian province has announced expenses such as promotional pavilions at previous Olympic Games in 2006 at Turin and 2008 in Beijing were on British Columbia’s bill. Previously, the government’s budget for the Olympics only covered venues in British Columbia, entertainment sites and services such as medical help and security.
The provincial budget is separate from money spent by the Olympic organizing committee on the Games.
