The Tour de France ended Stage 6 today with a fist fight that broke out between cyclists Carlos Barredo and rival Rui Costa. Reports indicate that Barredo went after Costa shortly after crossing the finish line of today’s race. The Tour de France isn’t usually an event that  draws fist fights, and the organizers responded to quickly reprimand both athletes and punish them with fines.

The scuffle was broken up before either rider got hurt. Costa and Barredo will resume racing in The Tour tomorrow. Both competitors were issued fines of 400 Swiss Francs (about $380 US dollars) for what organized characterized as ‘insults, threats and incorrect behavior’.

Mark Cavendish won Stage 6 today in a final sprint. Fabian Cancellara maintains his overall Tour de France lead, and will ride in the yellow jersey tomorrow. However, all eyes are on Alberto Contador, Lance Armstrong, and Cadel Evans now that The Tour is getting into the mountains stages that house some of the world’s most famous ski areas.
