New Zealand’s top freeride skiers and snowboarders will descend on Treble Cone as the resort hosts the Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge on Saturday, July 24th.

Over 100 skiers and riders are expected to tackle the steep faces and boulders beneath the Saddle Quad Chairlift.  Adding pressure for the skiers, The Summit Saddle Freeride Challenge is the qualifier event for the Volkl New Zealand Freeski Open North Face Big Mountain event.

Judges on hand will be evaluating style, the technicality of each line, and the difficulty of any tricks. Those who can master all three categories may very well find themselves vying for a shot at the Volkl New Zealand Freeski Open North Face finals, which will take place in the Mototapu Chutes on August 16th.

Even though the event isn’t a qualifier for snowboarders, prizes that include a heliboarding session with Harris Mountains should still result in some pretty fierce competition.

Interested athletes can register online at Spectators are welcome, and should be at the Saddle Quad Chair by 10:00 a.m., to ensure prime viewing.
