Aspen/Snowmass is set to offer “Downhill Fridays,” a new five-week downhill mountain biking contest series in Snowmass, July 16-August 13, 2010 and invites both local and regional riders as well as guests to compete in this new series.
The series will run on the intermediate downhill course that starts at the top of Elk Camp Gondola, and ends in Snowmass Base Village following the Snowmass Way trail. Each week there will be a three competitor groups including: Men’s Open division, Women’s Open and a Junior (16 and under) division.
The race will start at 6 p.m. each week with the last gondola ride up at 5:45 p.m. The course for each week will be set the day prior. On the race day the trail will be open for practice runs prior to the race. Participants can register at the Snowmass Gondola Ticket Office and can pay either a weekly fee of $25 per race or $100 for the five-week series. Registration includes Elk Camp Gondola access and the bike haul fee for the day of the race.
Prize Breakdown for each week will be as follows:
Men’s Open: 1st – $100, 2nd – $50, 3rd – $25
Women’s Open: 1st – $100, 2nd – $50, 3rd – $25
Juniors (16 and under): 1st – $50, 2nd – $25, 3rd – $15
