Snowboard innovator, John Hunt, has passed away at 57. A Durango, Colorado resident, Hunt helped launch the early Southwest Snowsurfing Association (SSSA).

Hunt’s extraordinary success came from introducing hundreds of people to the sport of snowboarding. In the early 80′s, he founded the SSSA’s free snowboard clinics in Purgatory and throughout Southern Colorado. Dedicated to his work, Hunt became a ski instructor at the Purgatory Ski School.

Additionally, he organized and coordinated the SSSA Wolf Creek Snowboard contests, which later became known as the “Rocky Mountain Snowboard Series.” The snowboarder was also very enthusiastic about creating one of Colorado’s first snowboard shops. His innovation and inspiration for snowboarding will be infinitely missed.
