Rescue workers have recovered the body of a missing climber who fell from a cliff during a severe lightning storm that struck his climbing group on Grand Teton mountain.
Park officials say rangers in a helicopter discovered the body of 21-year-old Brandon Oldenkamp, of Sanborn, Iowa, Thursday morning and were able to remove his body by the afternoon.
Oldenkamp was climbing with six other people when he fell approximately 2,000 feet during Wednesday’s storm. It’s not been determined whether he died from injuries sustained during the lightning strikes or from the fall.
As previously reported, park rangers worked via helicopter to rescue 16 injured climbers who had become stranded above 13,000 feet on the peak located in Grand Teton National Park.
