As previously reported, two-time Olympic snowboard champion Shaun White confirmed that he will make his eagerly anticipated return to skate competition at X Games 16 by entering in the Men’s Vert contest.
However, just this weekend, White was additionally added to the Vert Best Trick contest, thereby effectively doubling his chances to earn a Summer X Games gold medal for the first time since 2007.
White was originally planning to be back for the Boston stop of the Dew Tour, but had to pull out of the event due to a nagging ankle injury.
Many rumors have been flying in the skate blogosphere that predict White may again try to stomp the elusive 1080, a feat that has never been done on a skateboard. White may however be the most qualified skater to pull off the seemingly impossible feat, as his spinning prowess on a snowboard is well documented. Combine that fact with X Games legendary reputation as a spot where new tricks are unveiled to the masses, and we just might witness history once again.
