Enrique Iglesias may be the only one skiing in Miami

While the world is still waiting on Enrique Iglesias’s next day off to complete his bet with a naked water ski run in Miami’s Biscayne Bay, prospects of Enrique finding much else other skiing in South Florida may be rapidly shrinking.

Three months after first announcing plans to convert a 193-acre site at Biscayne Landing into an indoor skiing venue dubbed Solar Mountain, the prospective developer, Solar Mountain Management Group, has abandoned the project due to disputes with the site’s trustee over several key provisions.

In April, Solar Mountain’s $30 million bid was approved to acquire the property from Wells Fargo Bank. Since then, the developer has been negotiating with the city of North Miami to reduce its off-site financial obligations. Developers had hoped to break ground on the project next year and open in 2013.

Iglesias clearly needs to stop playing games with his fans, and step up to the plate with his water ski stunt, as the Miami ski community surely needs an uplifting moment to forget the loss of such a tremendous ski-related opportunity for the Florida city.
