Two-time Olympian and Mammoth resident Stacey Cook has announced the return of the Stacey Cook/Sun Valley Ski Tools Scholarship (SVST). Four winners, chosen by Cook and SVST will receive $500 worth of ski tools and $500 worth of ski wax, enough for the entire 2011 alpine season.

Applications are available now at with the deadline set for Wednesday, September 1st.

Now in its fourth season, the scholarship recognizes four J2 or J3 level athletes who exemplify talent, a good attitude, community involvement and a commitment to alpine skiing.

“Over the years, we’ve been able to add more and more gifts to the program. This year we’ve added a Ski Man vise system and a pair of race gloves,” added Cook. “In the three years that we’ve picked recipients, we’ve had such an unbelievable range of athletes apply, but the groups continue to amaze me each season. This past year was probably the kindest, most appreciative group yet – it makes all the work worth it.”

The program began when Cook was a junior racer and received support from SVST along with fellow Olympians Marco Sullivan, Erik Fisher, Hailey Duke and Dane Spencer, who recently joined the men’s alpine coaching staff.

After a brief hiatus, Cook asked SVST to rejuvenate the program in the form of a scholarship and began asking for applications in 2007.

“When I made the U.S. Ski Team, I didn’t really have the need for tuning support, but I still wanted to be able to give back,” said Cook. “I just asked Sun Valley Ski Tools if we could do something in the form of a scholarship and they haven’t looked back. They have been so awesome.”
