Stratton Mountain Ski Resort goes to the dogs

Statton locals and visitors alike have always made their relationships with their dogs an integral part of Stratton life, and now the Vermont ski resort has announced plans to celebrate that bond with “The Heels to Paws 5K and Dog Party.”

Set to take place on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the Village at Stratton Mountain, The 5K race will start at the flagpoles designating the entrance to the village and finishes with a beer and a BBQ for the humans. Frozen dog treats, wading pools, Frisbees, hot dog bobbing, Paw Paintings, Sprinklers and Stupid Pet Tricks will await the dogs at the conclusion of the race.

All proceeds from the Heels to Paws 5K ($20 registration) will go to the Second Chance Animal Shelter and the Windham County Humane Society. All participants will receive t-shirts and their pets will receive dog bones. Everybody is welcome to participate in the race and all of the activities, you don’t need a dog to enjoy this truly unique Stratton event.

Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. with the race starting at 10:30 a.m.

Schedule:

9:00 – Registration
10:30 – The Heels to Paws 5K
12:00 (approx.) Stupendous Pet Tricks contest on the Village Stage
Afternoon – Village BBQ for the humans with frozen dog treats, obstacle course musical mats, sprinklers, paw paintings and wading pools for your pets.
6:00 – Saturday Under the Stars concert series (The Rustic Overtones)
