Ski stars descend on Snow Park NZ for summer training

Snow Park NZ had what might be considered a bit of an “experimental” year last ski season, as the New Zealand terrain park mecca tried some new things on how to best serve its visitors, and found mixed results. However, for current Summer 2010, the resort has blown it out of the water for skiers and boarders with an amazing collection of jumps, rails, halfpipe, and even an airbag.

Not surprisingly, the park-specific ski area has established itself as the place to be heading into this week’s Volkl NZ Freeski Open, as skiers have come in droves to get their tricks dialed in before what’s expected to be an ultra-competitive contest. While next week’s contest may be at another Wanaka-based ski area, Cardrona, Snow Park is expected to be going off all summer given a more limited contest circuit; the NZ Winter Games aren’t happening again until Summer 2011.

Ski stars such as Bobby Brown, Gus Kenworthy, and Russ Henshaw have made Snow Park their temporary home as the manicured features allow them to push the evolution of the sport one training mission at a time.
