Australia’s only Superpipe made its season debut on Front Valley at Perisher ski resort over the weekend, but was shortly filled in with snow after a massive storm dropped up to 22 inches of snow at the resort.
Constructed using Australia’s only halfpipe cutter, the behometh runs just under a 100 meters (328 feet) long, 16 meters (52 feet) wide and with walls over five meters (17 feet) high, it is the only halfpipe of its kind in Australia.
Luckily, Perisher’s crew has some of Australia’s finest grooming equipment to prepare the snowy pipe as Australian Winter Olympic Halfpipe Gold Medalist Torah Bright is expected to be in attendance at Perisher’s Superpipe during The 2010 Australian Junior Halfpipe event on Saturday, Aug. 14.
Perisher has also launched a special promotion to “Board with Torah for a Day” via their website. Intermediate or better snowboarders may enter to win the contest by filling out the form and answering a few simple questions. The winner and two of their friends will each receive a lift ticket for the day and four hours sessioning on-snow with Bright. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Aug. 11, and the winner will be the first correct entry drawn on Aug. 12. The competition entry form and details of the promotion can be found at www.perisher.com.au/winter/torah_comp.
