This morning we reported with heavy hearts the tragic news that Swedish ski mountaineer Fredrik Ericsson fell to his death while attempting the first ever ski descent of K2, the world’s second highest mountain.

Ericsson, whose death follows similar untimely passings of top ski talents Shane McConkey, CR Johnson, and Arne Backstrom, lived his life with passion that made people simply gravitate towards him.

Before his first K2 ski descent attempt in June 2009, Ski Channel host and editor Zeke Piestrup was lucky enough to interview Ericsson and get a sense of his mentality going into his mission to ski the world’s top-3 peaks, and his thoughts on life.

In a now goose-bumps inducing moment, Fredrik gives us a little taste of his drive for life as he says, “Skiing is my life, that’s it.”
