Teen Choice Award Winners: Vampires rule, skiers and snowboarders drool?

If the suspense of the 2010 Teen Choice Awards winners is too much for you to handle, you can calm it down now. Although the big show won’t air until tonight at 8 (PDT) on Fox, the winners were announced in Los Angeles last night.

In the Action Sports category, skateboarder Ryan Sheckler again beat out snowboard guru Shaun White. Clearly the youth of America has gone crazy, as no one can forget the amazing 2010 Vancouver Olympic performance of Shaun White and his barrage of double flips and McTwists.

What’s even more worrisome is that teens weren’t more supportive of Vermont snowboarder Kevin Pearce. Pearce, who famously suffered a severe head injury this winter, had to have been the fan favorite for the award. Hopefully Pearce can use this obvious snub as motivation to get back on his board and shock the world.

On the ladies side, female winter sports stars were shocked as a surfer upset the two snowboarders and one skier represented in the category.  “Superbabe of Snow” favorite Sarah Burke along with snowboarders Gretchen Bleiler, and Hannah Teter were all denied the surf-inspired hardware in the Action Sports category, as surfer Maya Gabeira took the honor.

I’m sure no one is surprised to hear that vampires dominated the awards, as the Twilight movies (both New Moon and Eclipse) racked up 12 trophies, while the CW’s drama The Vampire Dairies took home seven. Twilight‘s Robert Pattison, country music sensation Taylor Swift, and skateboarder turned pop star Justin Bieber each took home four awards.

The winners were selected through more than 85 million votes cast online.
