Dew Tour Finals: Shaun White wins first skate contest since 2008

Shaun White is winning contests on his skateboard again, and didn’t need a double cork or a 1080 to do so. Instead, White relied on his new move, the Armadillo, a frontside heelflip body varial 540, to propel himself to the top spot in front of veteran Bucky Lasek and last month’s X Games 16 champion Pierre-Luc Gagnon.

The two-time Olympic snowboarding gold medalist won the skate vert finals today at the Dew Tour’s Portland stop.

The win marked White’s first skate title since 2008, after taking last season off due to an ankle injury and his preparation for the Olympics.

The same ankle injury returned this year, keeping him out of the Dew Tour stop in Boston, which was to be his scheduled return to skate competition. In his first skate contest of the year, Gagnon relegated White to 2nd place at the X Games two weeks ago.
