The sun is shining and back to school shopping is in full swing, but Spyder isn’t letting the dog days of summer keep them from kicking off the Winter ‘10/11 ski season early. The iconic brand is off to the Southern Hemisphere this week with a trip to attack the steep slopes of the Andes Mountains in Portillo, Chile.
The twelve-day adventure, the first of its kind in company history, brings together the brand’s high profile athletes for a series of photo shoots at the world famous resort. Included in the trip is big mountain skier and “The Story” star Chris Davenport; legendary skiers and Olympic medalists Tommy Moe, Julia Mancuso, and Daron Rahlves; US Ski Team athlete Steven Nyman, and freeskiers Julian Carr, Rosalind Groenewoud, Colby West, Jake Zamansky and Jess McMillan.
Spyder is shooting photographs for its Winter 2011 line to be used in wholesale workbooks, consumer catalogs, websites, advertising, and retail space. A crew of The Public Works (www thepublicworks.biz) action photographers will capture on-snow photos. New York-based fashion photographer Dylan Griffin (www.dylangriffin.com) will conduct studio sessions with individual athletes to capture their personality in close-ups. To get the insider’s view on film, documentary filmmaker Michael Martin (www.michaelmartinproductions.com) will roll HD footage throughout the week. Warren Miller Entertainment will also be along for the ride to video the athletes for their 2011 feature film, the 62nd installment in the wintersports franchise (http://www.skinet.com/warrenmiller/).
Spyder’s team will stay at the renowned Hotel Portillo, the ultimate ski-in, ski-out resort located at 10,000 feet. Days will be spent accessing fresh powder runs amidst the high Andes peaks including the nearby Aconcagua, the highest mountain on the continent.
