Freestyle skiing and snowboarding added to London ‘X in the City’ festival

London is set to host the world’s largest action sports event, X in the City, on October 22-24, 2010, and now the event organizers have confirmed a Snow Zone has been added to the event, bringing the world’s best freestyle skiers and snowboarders for contests, demos, and a whole lot more.

Visitors will find a 7.5 meter (25 feet) high ramp in the center of the Snow Zone at X in the City where in line with the ethos of the event, attendees can watch demos and competitions, learn a new sport, meet some high profile athletes or even paricipate in the action.

On Saturday October 23rd, the Mountain Dew Big Air Invitational will be taking place, with 10 skiers and 10 snowboarders battling it out for a place in the evening’s final. The ramp is perfect for extreme freestyle demos on to the huge air bag, and guests will also enjoy BMX and mountain board riders throwing down cutting edge freestyle tricks up to five times a day.

Southwell Enterprises, run by professional snow sports athletes Chris and Nick Southwell, are running the snow slope at X in the City. Chris is a professional snowboarder, currently ranked 26th in the world freeride Q rankings and is the 2nd highest ranked British freerider. Nick has been skiing professionally for 8 years and is currently ranked number 1 in the UK for freeride skiing.  Alongside their careers in Extreme Freeriding they have set up Southwell Enterprises, which specializes in ski and snowboard event management, school lectures on their careers, organization of extreme skiing and snowboarding expeditions and snow sports consultancy work.

The Warren Smith Ski Academy, the leading British snow sport coaching school, will offer top level coaching for all people keen on having a go at and experiencing skiing or snowboarding for the 1st time. They will run 6 sessions a day on the huge indoor 15 meters wide and 30 meters long learning slope, with bookings being taken at X in the City on a first come basis.

Names for the Mountain Dew Big Air Invitational competition and the demos will be announced shortly. Advance tickets for X in the City are available nowfor the full three days of action at London’s Excel this October.
