Wanaka, New Zealand skier Hamish McDougall and French snowboarder Jim Dabbadie took out the Racer’s Edge Volkl Big Air series titles at Treble Cone on Saturday.

Both snow sports athletes demonstrated style, confidence and daring as they attacked the 30ft big air jump in the Saddle Basin during the second round of this competition. Both were presented with a $500 Icebreaker clothing voucher. A third special prize was awarded to grommet Finn Bilous (10) for his sterling performances in both events.

Strong support from the spectators helped encourage the first-time skiers and boarders to give it a go. From beginners to talented gromms up to elite athletes, the competition received a good mix of skills and abilities. Even those on the sidelines were winners with plenty of Racers Edge giveaways as the DJs from Wanaka Beats kept the tunes rolling.

“The skiers and riders had a lot of fun out there on the big air. The crowd provided excellent support and the trademark Treble Cone view, the perfect backdrop. Judges were impressed with the efforts of all athletes, it was a great fun competition,” said Nigel Kerr, marketing manager.

Following a strong performance from round one two weeks ago, Hamish McDougall continued his reign to win the ski competition while Canadian Dave Schmidt achieved top honours in the snowboard division.

Austrian skier Birgit Ertl won the women’s ski competition and in the snowboard section Devon Malcolm from Wanaka topped the podium. The grommets proved their mite in the competition and again achieved excellent placings.

The prize pool included goodies from Racers Edge, Volkl, Icebreaker, Mother, Sessions and Smith.

Next weekend Treble Cone will stage the BASE Triple Comp, three fun events in one day; Banked Slalom, Expression Session and a Big Air. For further information visit www.treblecone.com.
