Five alpine racers from Killington Mountain School have been named to the 2010-2011 VARA team. The VARA Team is a select group of VARA member Vermont ski racers who have earned the right to wear the VARA Team vest and have earned free entries into Vermont races by meeting certain criteria during the previous season.
The alpine racers from Killington Mountain School, with results from 2009-2010, include Kyle Burcin, of Basking Ridge, N.J., who won the overall title in the J3 Eastern Junior Olympics; Allison Visconti, of Ridgefield, Ct., who won the Vermont J1/Senior Slalom Championship; Dylan Malone, of Needham, Mass., who won the Men’s Slalom at the J2 Eastern Championships; Alli Price, of Rutland, Vt., who was the J4 Overall State Champion and qualified for both Future Stars and Can Ams; and Piper Jenne, of Bridgewater, Vt., who was the J4 State Champion, placed second overall at Future Stars and finished 10th at Can Ams.
In order to make the team, racers must achieve any one of the following criteria: VOC Winning Team; VC Overall Gold; GTS Overall Gold; J1/sr, J2, J3 State Championship Overall Gold; J4 State Championship Event Gold; EAC Event Gold, Overall; J2 Nationals Event Gold and Overall; J3 JO Event Gold and Overall; and/or Eastern Regional Team, USST.
Athletes must show strong character and high regard for being a good sport as well. Being named to the VARA Team is considered an honor and VARA expects that each team member represent VARA and the state of Vermont respectfully.
“It’s an honor to have so many student-athletes named to the VARA Team for the upcoming season,” said KMS Head of School Tao Smith. “These athletes worked hard all season long and their dedication paid off. We’re looking forward to watching them grow and successfully race again this season.”
All student-athletes will be honored at the 2010 Vermont Celebration of Ski Racing Gala on Oct. 22 at Sugarbush Resort in Warren
