Australia’s most watched skiing and snowboarding big-air event kicks off today, September 14th (Australia time) for another year and will run through September 18th at Thredbo Ski Resort. Competitors will go head-to-head on the Charles Beckinsale built jump feature, stomping their single best trick in front of the cameras. The footage will be uploaded to the web, where the public will have three weeks to vote on their favorite clip at www.onehitwonderevent.com. The skier and snowboarder with the most votes will share in $10,000.
As a supporter of the Toyota One Hit Wonder, Salomon were invited to put forward one of their team riders to compete in the big-air event. Salomon opted for Brown, the 18-year-old big air phenom from Colorado, who in one short season, has gone from a promising freshman to the man to beat in big-air competition. Earlier this year he made history when he became the first to win two events (slopestyle and big-air) in the Aspen Winter X Games.
All voters will also be entered into a drawing to win the “Ultimate Winter Package” which includes a Deep Powder Tours Ski Holidays all-expenses-paid trip for two to Niseko Japan, plus a brand new set of skis or snowboard, boots, bindings and poles from Salomon.
“The Toyota One Hit Wonder Down Under showcases Australian snow sports on an international stage, and in 2010 spectators should expect nothing short of an insane jaw-dropping feast for the senses,” says Event Director, Tim Myers. “This event brings out the best in local riders and is a great way to highlight the skills of our upcoming athletes as well as progress the sport in Australia.”
Last year’s winning skier and snowboarder, Slovenian Bine Zalohar and Victorian Robbie Walker will be back to the Thredbo booter to defend their titles, so you know it will be a hard-fought contest.
