White qualifies 2nd at Salt Lake Dew Tour ‘homecoming’

The Dew Tour carries on into Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend, and today the Skateboard Vert Qualifiers got underway with the return of one of the world’s top action sports athletes. Of course I’m talking about Shaun White, who is trying to win his second straight Dew Tour event after taking top honors at the Portland stop last month.

White may be best known for his Olympic gold medals on his snowboard but he’s no slouch on the skateboard either. He proved that fact today by narrowly earning 2nd place behind skate icon Bob Burnquist.

The strong start in Salt Lake shouldn’t be all that surprising for White considering the area is essentially his second home, owning a house in nearby Park City. White, who is a member of the Park City Mountain Resort team, trains halfpipe there during the winter, taking advantage of PCMR’s world class 22-foot pipe.

However, White isn’t likely to be thinking about any icy pipes on Sunday during the finals at EnergySolutions Arena – he’s looking to add another victory to his laundry list of wins and cement his status as chairman of the board.
