In 2009, outdoor giants The North Face teamed up with Teton Gravity Research and Jeremy Jones’ Protect Our Winters (POW) to release possibly one of the most important films in recent years. Titled “Generations”, this short film interviewed professional athletes and others involved in the snow sports community about the topic of global climate change. Along with explorations of the consequences of climate change that are already making themselves apparent, “Generations” asks one important question. “If there wasn’t skiing, what would you do?”
Obviously as skiers and other mountain sport aficionados, snow is our most precious resource. Not to mention anything of river sports, cliff jumping, or clean water supplies. We have to fight to protect our natural resources, and it seems POW along with TGR and The North Face has decided to lead way. A toast to them all.

Protect Our Winters was formed in 2007 by professional snowboarder Jeremy Jones. Their mission statement is as follows: “Protect Our Winters is the environmental center point of the winter sports community, united towards a common goal of reducing climate change’s effects on our sport and local mountain communities. We believe that to really effect things, consumer behavior needs to change and that the power of an actively participating and united community can have a direct influence on climate change, now and for generations behind us.”
Sounds great to me. Show them some love at http://protectourwinters.org/
