Copper Mountain started its snowmaking guns Monday in anticipation of a projected opening in 25 days. The resort in Summit County, Colo., initially planned to fire up the snow guns on Sept. 27, but high temperatures kept the guns silent for a while longer.

The Lift Off festival, Nov. 5-7, will kick off the ski season for the sixth time. The annual celebration includes ski and snowboard movie screenings, demos and live music.

Copper Mountain is located right off Interstate 70, 75 miles west of Denver and 20 miles east of Vail.
