KHOMBU, a leading provider of waterproof footwear, has renewed a nearly decade long licensing partnership with the U.S. Ski Team for another four years. As a part of the partnership, KHOMBU provides branded footwear to retail using the U.S. Ski Team logo, another step in the U.S. Ski Team’s building of a retail strategy around its well known brand.
“Through KHOMBU we are spreading the U.S. Ski Team awareness. We are a family footwear brand and we have a U.S. Ski Team hang tag on all of our shoes – men’s, women’s and children’s – with an international distribution,” said KHOMBU Vice President Matthew Itzkowitz. “We represent core family values, which is a great match to what USSA stands for.”
“KHOMBU provides outstanding product for our athletes,” said the Team’s Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer Andrew Judelson. “That quality product translates into sales through the connection to our world class athletes as a part of our retail strategy with partners like KHOMBU. That loyalty to Team athletes over time has provided great benefits to the Team and to KHOMBU retailers who sell our branded merchandise.”
Looking ahead to the 2010-11 winter season, KHOMBU set increased retail sales goals through merchandising its products around the U.S. Ski Team brand. The use of U.S. Ski Team hang tags on all products creates awareness for both brands and helps move the needle for KHOMBU during the winter season.
“The value for KHOMBU is to be a part of American history and heritage. The Team brings a strong feeling of patriotism, hard work, team work and perseverance,” said Itzkowitz. “To be an official supplier and licensee to the U.S. Ski Team, and to have the opportunity to provide the professional athletes that compete in the Games with our KHOMBU footwear, is an honor. It matches the values of the KHOMBU brand with those of the competitive spirit of the U.S. Ski Team.”
KHOMBU will have two U.S. Ski Team specific co-branded styles in specialty athletic stores in stores this fall. The two style brands are a children’s unisex style called TEAM and a women’s style called SNOWSKI. Styles will be distributed mainly in specialty athletic stores this fall.
“We are looking forward to being a part of the excitement and success and doing our part to support the U.S. Ski Team and its athletes,” said Itzkowitz. “The goals of the partnership are to increase our customers’ awareness of the U.S. Ski Team and KHOMBU, as well as play a larger role in the U.S. Ski Team’s events, collaborating with the athletes and management on product direction and co-branding opportunities.”
