As Saturday’s World Cup opener looms in Soelden, Austria; Bode Miller will be sporting some new eqipment on race day compliments of POC Sports. The two-time 2010 Olympic medalist Miller has officially signed to POC to endorse their goggles and helmets.
According to POC Sports CEO and founder Stefan Ytterborn, Bode was always at the top of his list for potential POC athletes. Five years ago, when the Swedish company was just in its infancy, Ytterborn journeyed to Burlington, Vermont (not far from Miller’s hometown of Franconia, NH) where he attempted to lure the World Cup star to the team during a meeting with Bode’s agent Ken Sowles.
Ytterborn wrote in a statement, “I knew then chances were small. He was in the middle of a contract and at the time we really didn’t have the capacity to support him. Since then, I´ve been sending product info, samples and little notes, just not to lose the initiative, if the opportunity would pop up.”
While Ytterborn was unable to ink Bode at the time, he picked up no small consolation prize in the form of future three-time Olympic medalist Julia Mancuso.
Opening the 2010-11 World Cup season on Saturday, both Miller and Mancuso will be sporting the POC brand as they look continue on the success of their historic Olympic runs.
