Canadian resort Le Massif de Charlevoix will open for its 30th-anniversary ski season on Saturday with six trails in the Camp-Boule Express Sector. As part of a $16-million improvement plan announced in March, the new Le Massif Express gondola will provide service in about 10 minutes from the base area to the summit. The Doppelmayr gondola with 50 eight-passenger cabins also includes a mid-mountain loading station.
“On top of offering increased comfort to our clientele, its loading station is to be located east of the Grande-Pointe Express Lift, on a section of mountain earmarked for two new beginner trails,” said David Gauthier, president and general manager of Groupe Le Massif. “As well, the mid-station of this new lift will offer another loading area mid-mountain which will help reduce congestion at the base.”
Located near Quebec City, Le Massif ski area overlooks the St. Lawrence River that is about 10 miles wide in that stretch. The area has a vertical drop of 2,526 feet, Canada’s largest east of the Rocky Mountains.
