Park City Local Entrepreneur Leads an Industry
“The Greatest Risk in Life is to Risk Nothing”
Park City, Utah…Bryn Carey, President and Founder of Ski Butlers, has taken his idea of delivering ski and snowboard rentals from his single car garage in Park City, Utah into one of North America’s largest and most successful ski rental delivery companies. “I have always dreamed big,” said Mr. Carey. “With support from my family, relying on advice from my close advisors, good timing, and a drive to be the best, I have been able to take my idea and change an industry while having a blast at the same time.”
The concept of ski rental delivery is simple; make renting ski and snowboard equipment convenient and hassle-free by delivering the best quality equipment to the accommodations of our customers with the highest level of customer service. “From the start I believed that if we could accomplish these goals, we would be successful. Today I can say that my original idea has been successful. So successful that we now serve over 30 North American resorts. Ski Butlers has revolutionized an industry.”
Carey came up with the idea of Ski Butlers while finishing his final semester at the University of New Hampshire. “I was so excited about the idea I had to force myself to stop working on it during the final weeks of school. When I graduated, I immediately began to turn my idea into a reality.”
Ski Butlers’ success stems from one thing, “Customer service,” said Mr. Carey. “Ski Butlers was founded on customer service and today strives on customer service. Taking the hassle out of renting skis, hiring exceptional employees, and offering the highest level of equipment, all for an affordable price, is a different model than most ski rental shops.”
Since Carey’s youth, he says he has had an entrepreneurial spirit. “One of my favorite sayings is ‘the greatest risk in life is to risk nothing.’ In seventh grade I received a root beer and soda brewing kit and I decided that I should make a big batch and sell it. This batch came out a bit flat but, nonetheless, I hit the streets of Kingfield, Maine and sold my root beer. There are similar small projects like this that I did while I was growing up. To me, it was fun. ”
Carey’s smaller projects lead him into bigger opportunities. After working for Park City Seal Coat for one year in high school, Carey decided to buy it. “This was a big step in my entrepreneurial career. Most people told me not to purchase the seal coat company but I knew I just had to go for it. I didn’t make a ton of money but learned more than you can imagine. When people ask me about my success in Ski Butlers, I always let them know about my experience owning Park City Seal Coat. Without Park City Seal Coat I would not be where I am today.”
Today, there are 10 Ski Butlers shops serving over 30 North American ski resorts. Carey owns four of the shops and the other six have been franchised. Carey says he gets approached each month about opening new locations, going to Europe, or starting a new business altogether. “When I started Ski Butlers, my goal was to be in the 10 largest ski markets and we have done that. Will we go bigger? I ask myself that question each day. I think the sky is the limit but I always line up my personal goals and the goals of the company before adding a location or starting a new business venture. The bottom line; if it makes sense, we will go for it!”
