Snowshoe Mountain Resort is once again a winter wonderland, and that’s good news for skiers and riders anxiously waiting to kick of ski season in West Virginia with Snowshoe’s opening on Wednesday, Dec 8th. Since December 1st, Snowshoe has seen 20 inches of natural snowfall, and the resort’s 150 snow guns have been working around the clock across the mountain for 120 hours. The forecast contains more good news for snow enthusiasts, as another foot of snow is expected to fall on the resort before Wednesday. And for skiers and riders planning to be at the Pocahontas County resort for rope drop at 9am on the 8th, the weather should cooperate, with temperatures creeping back into the 20s after days of highs in the teens.
Snowshoe plans to open with 14 snow-covered slopes serviced by 4 lifts on Wednesday, but aggressive snowmaking should allow the resort to expand terrain before the weekend. The resort will open with terrain park features available in the Powdermonkey terrain park, as well as a variety of available amenities, including restaurants, shops, The Big Top Entertainment Center, Split Rock Pools and more. Opening Day lift and lodging packages start at just $118 per person, per night and Snowshoe is offering a 3-for-2 lodging offer through December 22nd. Night skiing, the resort’s tubing hill and terrain at the Silver Creek area will open on Friday, Dec 17th.
