DENVER (AP) – Thirty years ago on Dec. 15, Beaver Creek Ski Resort opened to skiers.Former President Gerald Ford was on hand.
This weekend, dozens of people who helped develop and run the resort in the early years are getting together in Beaver Creek to mark the resort’s anniversary and share photos, stories and memories.
Vail Associates opened the resort after pushing through opposition from environmentalists and a U.S. Forest Service permitting process.
The ski area had six lifts when it launched. Today, Beaver Creek has 17 lifts, 149 trails, four terrain parks and a halfpipe on more than 1,800 acres.
