Orange Bubble Express debuts at Canyons Resort

During the off-season, Canyons Resort lost its “The” apparently to a marketing consultant, but the Utah ski area, formerly known as “THE Canyons,” gained the Orange Bubble Express quad chairlift. Although the start of resort operations was pushed back two weeks by construction delays, the Park City resort kicked off its 2010-11 ski season Friday.

To celebrate the new lift that features orange covers on the chairs and heated seats, Canyons gave orange Oakley Splice goggles to the first 100 guests in line. The goggles retail for $150. Tipped off on Canyons’ social-media outlets earlier in the week to a mystery free gift, skiers and boarders lined up early in the morning for the early-bird prizes.

Along with the Orange Bubble Express that provides additional access out of the base area, the Flight of the Canyons Gondola was rerouted and is now named the Red Pine Gondola. The resort also expanded by 300 skiable acres to 4,000 overall by building another new lift on Iron Mountain, the ninth peak of the largest lift-served ski area in Utah.
